What is managed IT services?

Yes, we are authorized resellers of well-known product manufacturers including Microsoft, Hewlett Packard, Cisco, Sophos etc.
If you are a client of our managed IT service, you enjoy preferential/discounted rates on any hardware or software purchases.

How are managed IT services different from traditional IT support?

The biggest difference is that traditional IT support is a reactive service, meaning that it will attend to the issue when it arises, whereas managed IT services is proactively monitoring and making changes to ensure that nothing goes wrong in the first place.

What is spam?

Spam is computerized junk mail and unrequested correspondences sent in mass through an electronic communication system. Unrequested, troublesome, and typically promotional, spam messages are intended to flood however many inboxes as possible.

Why am I getting spam?

Even though you have not signed up for spam, many organizations earn money by selling your email address and other contact data to outsiders. Resulting in spammers sending out bulk emails to anyone they can find. If only a handful of receivers respond in favour of the campaign, the spammer will easily see a positive response.

What is a spam filter?

It is an add on to an email system which oversees checking every mail that is received or sent. Any email which is potentially harmful or dangerous will be flagged and marked as spam and not deliver to inbox or blocked to be sent. Therefore, resulting in clean and safe emails in your organisation.

What does the spam go?

At XC360 we use Spam titan where the spam emails go to a quarantine box where you have an option of either whitelisting, releasing the email to inbox or route to the recipient’s junk folder.

Do I require any hardware or software to use spam filter?

No special hardware or software is required as it is a software as a service – a reconfiguration of your emails to pass through our filter.

Does it work with all e-mail providers?

Our service works with any email platform, be it on premise email servers or cloud based e.g.: Office 365.

What is the cost of a spam filter?

This depends on the number of Mailboxes. Rates starting from as low as Ksh 5000 per month.

What are the types of security audits?

We provide two types of audits: 1: Internal assessment:

Analyses organisations IT processes, data access and control.
Weaknesses in network devices – checking if devices are patched with the latest security updates, analysing configurations of firewalls, server and any other network devices.
Analyzing accessibility of confidential data and restrictions in place.
Assessing DR and business continuity procedures/plans.

Difference between DR and business continuity?

Disaster recovery has no data loss due to disaster but does not guarantee a normal business operations continuity whereas business continuity allows the business to be operational while recovery is taking place.

If my server is down, how will my business run?t?

Having a tier 4 data center based in London, and the tier 3 data center based locally in Nairobi. Ensuring that your data and your systems are safe and available and guarantee 99.9% uptime.

What Can we back up??

From file level to databases cloud and mirroring of servers and applications.

If my server is down, how will my business run?

With our business continuity service, your server is fully replicated on the cloud. In a case of a disaster when servers are down, we have the capability to shift you to working securely from your servers live from the cloud while recovery takes place.

Do I have enough bandwidth to support cloud backup?

Once the main backup is performed, other subsequent backups are incremental (only new changes are backed up) which consumes minimal bandwidth.

I need a file back from two weeks ago or years ago, can you do this?

Yes, easily. Getting any file back is very quick and pain free. We can set retention policies for your data for as long as you like.

How many servers can be backed up with your service?

Unlimited – we can backup as many servers as you want and make as many changes as you need.

Do you monitor the service?

Yes – this is a fully managed service – we monitor the backups and health of your backup server 24/7. You will be notified of any problems. We will try to resolve them ourselves, however we will contact you for anything that needs to be done.

I’ve heard about RPO and RTO. What do these mean for my DR strategy?

RTO (recovery time objective) or how quickly you need your infrastructure to be ready again in a new location. For instance, this is my critical ERP system, so I need that to be back up within an hour. Or I don’t need my payroll system until the end of the pay period, so I can afford to leave that down for a few days.
Recovery Point Objective is how much data can be lost between the source and the target within that replication. That’s usually the length of time it takes for the data to get from the source to the target. So, if it’s a website, and you don’t push regular changes to your site, you might have a higher RPO. But if it’s a highly transactional database, you want to have a low RPO, so as much of the data as possible will be replicated in the target environment.

Are back-ups and archives the same thing?

Backups are historical copies of data that are meant to act as a failsafe in the event of equipment failure, or another catastrophe. Backups are often required instantly in emergencies so businesses can get back up and running as soon as possible.
Data archives, on the other hand, are meant to act as a repository for data that needs to be stored for long periods of time. Unlike backups, they don’t need to be accessed urgently because they’re designed for long-term data retention.

How do I access my DR services?

You can use a VPN client to access your Disaster Recovery systems from any computer. This will securely log you into your recovery systems as though you were in your office. This is a great option if you need to access your systems, but you are not in the office.

Is the backup solution automated or manual?

It is fully automated system to avoid any human errors. Such as forgetting to run backups or not having a dedicated person responsible for backups.

What about security of my backups?

Encryption is implemented on all our backups. All data stored in our cloud is encrypted.
